Tooth loss affects millions of Americans every year. Having one or more missing teeth can hamper your self-esteem, not to mention it can make eating, speaking, and other activities uncomfortable and ineffective. Fortunately, Mint Dental Care offers various tooth replacement solutions, including dental implants. If you have a missing tooth or several missing teeth, please contact our friendly team to learn more about dental implants and how they can help you restore your smile.

What Is a Dental Implant?

A tooth fits into the jawbone like a fence post in the ground, and we only see about a third of the tooth's total length. If the fence post loosens or the soil erodes, the fence isn't as stable as before, and it's more likely to slant or fall.

A dental implant is a permanent tooth root replacement, so it stimulates the jawbone and becomes a natural part of your mouth's anatomy. Ultimately, a dental implant is a thin titanium post that holds the replacement crown (the visible part of the tooth) in place.

How Does the Dental Implant Process Work?

Your implant dentist will perform a comprehensive evaluation, review your medical history, and assess your oral health needs to determine your candidacy for the dental implant procedure. Some patients may even need bone grafting before implant placement, which is necessary for those who don't have adequate bone tissue to hold the implant.

Before the surgery, we ensure you are entirely comfortable and relaxed, and we administer a local anesthetic to numb any pain or discomfort. The dentist then surgically places the implant post into the jawbone. It may take up to six months for the implant post to naturally bond with the jawbone, but we can attach the replacement tooth to the post once it heals.

A dental implant is the most lifelike tooth replacement because they look, feel, and function just like natural teeth. No one will even know the dental implant isn't part of your natural smile!
